ECE 100
Examines underlying principles of quality practices utilized in early childhood programs emphasizing the key role of relationships, constructive adult-child interactions, and teaching strategies to support physical, cognitive and social/emotional development for all children. This course includes a review of the evolution of the field and introduces the profession of early childhood education.
ECE 101
Examines the major physical, psycho-social, and cognitive/language developmental milestones of children, both typical and atypical from conception through adolescence. Emphasizes interactions between maturational processes and environmental factors while studying developmental theory and investigative research methodologies.
ECE 102
Examines the developing child in a societal context focusing on the interrelationship of family, school, and community and emphasizing historical and sociocultural factors. The processes of socialization and identity development will be highlighted, showing the importance of respectful, reciprocal relationships that support and empower families.
ECE 105
Introduces the regulations, policies, and procedures for early childhood curriculum related to child health, safety, and nutrition. Explores the importance of collaboration with families and health professionals to ensure physical health, mental health and safety for all children, families, and professionals.
